Swapya is an online, trade-exclusive marketplace. Members can barter or swap goods, items, services, and assets for those of higher (or lesser) value depending on their own requirements and those of other members in the New Zealand Swapya community.
Have you ever heard the story of the Swapper who traded their way from a simple metal paperclip to owning their own house? By using Swapya and making the right deals this could potentially be you!
Members can list whatever they wish and as many items as they want, as long as it abides by NZ law and Swapya’s terms of use.
Feel free to list items from around the house such as electronics, musical equipment, furniture, food and beverage, etc under our General Items section, swap these for other general items or try to trade up with singular or multiple items for listings of greater worth in our property, vehicle, or machinery categories.
Perhaps you have a specialist skill like building, painting, sewing, plumbing that you can trade for other services or labour, or use your skills to exchange for items of necessity such as tools, transport, or stock. Swap your services for a trip away to a family bach, trade your business for a house, a car for a boat, a trailer for a tractor, motorbike for a mountain bike – you get the idea.
While a Swapper can estimate the value of their listing, you never know who might say yes to something of lesser worth like a paper clip. The possibilities for exchange are limitless as long as you and your fellow Swapper agree to the deal.
Simply sign up, sign in, and list your item/s for potential trades. Either wait for other Swappers to message you about your listings or find the items you have always wanted using our search menu. Once you have found a potential deal, hit the Direct Message button to send a private message to your fellow trader, and if they like what you have offered, then the terms of trade can be agreed upon and a Swap made (either in person or via private delivery).
Swapya is free to sign up for those aged 18 and over. Once a membership has been created users can list and trade items with other registered Swappers.
While some items are free to list, others may incur some listing fees depending on which Swapya package has been selected for your placement (Please see our pricing guide). Swapya does not charge any success fees for completed trades.
Yes! Each new Swapya member is required to authenticate their account via email verification from a New Zealand IP address. This allows us to not only monitor Swapya for dodgy listings but also prevents the creation of multiple or fake accounts. Only once verified can a new member begin to trade.
When making an exchange please ensure that both Swappers are satisfied with the quality of each other’s listing before committing to a trade. While Swapya does require listing photos for most items, these may not be specific to your requirements, so feel free to exchange additional photos, videos, and information through our messaging service. Swappers will not receive any of your details like your email/phone number until you are both ready to finalise the trade.
When meeting up to complete your deals, we recommend using a designated Swap-Spot like a public reserve, car park, or shopping centre during daylight hours. However, this won’t always be practical, so please exercise caution when giving your address or going to another Swappers home.
While we do our best to moderate Swapya to prevent the listing of inappropriate or incorrect items, sometimes we may need your help to find these.
If you do see a listing that seems dodgy, then please message us using the red ‘Report’ button above the listing to highlight it to us. Cheers!
Swapya is the brainchild of Dan and Steve, two mates with spending habits too great to justify all their stuff to their partners. So rather than admitting their “treasure” is just “junk” they found a clever way to justify their hoarding.
After beginning locally through classifieds and social media trades, the two realised the potential market for other scavengers to join them. Hence, Swapya.co.nz was born as a way to unite Kiwis also looking to trade their “junk” for “treasure”… while also feeding Dan and Steve’s swapping addictions…
